Applebee’s Baby Back Ribs

Applebee’s Baby Back Ribs are incredibly easy to make at home with our Applebee’s Baby Back Ribs Secret Recipe. The whole thing takes about about 1 1/4 hours — with only about 4 minutes actual work time.

The BBQ sauce is surprisingly simple and has only 6 — count ’em 6! — ingredients.

I usually make 2 batches of the sauce. One for basting and one for dipping at the table.

FAQs

What are applebees ribs made of? ›

Riblets are technically still ribs, just a smaller part. They are the portion of pork meat that the butcher slices off from the underside of spare ribs. They contain cartilage but no bone and are just as delicious.

Should baby back ribs be marinated? ›

For tender, flavorful ribs, marinating is the way to go. Our baby back ribs marinade comes together quickly just using a whisk; it's made from soy sauce, whiskey, and honey that's seasoned with fresh ginger, white pepper, sesame oil, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

How do you tenderize baby back ribs overnight? ›

Coat ribs with salt. Add other flavorings, like chili powder, cumin, coriander, or Knorr Pork Cubes, if desired. Keep in the refrigerator for 8 hours or overnight.

Which of the cooking methods is best for baby back ribs? ›

Cooking baby back ribs in the oven is one of the easiest methods. First, wrap the ribs in tin foil and slow-roast them in the oven on a low temperature between 275 and 325 degrees. Bake until cooked through and tender, usually around 2 to 2.5 hours.

What are baby back ribs made of? ›

Baby back ribs come from the upper part of the pig's back, near the spine. Baby back ribs are also extremely popular menu items at the finest Daytona Beach restaurants — and for good reason! They are called “baby back ribs” simply because of their smaller size. You'll usually have 8-13 ribs per rack.

What's the difference between Applebee's riblets and ribs? ›

However, what Applebees refers to as “riblets” are actually “button ribs,” which are actually not ribs at all. They're from a long, thin cut of meat that runs along the spine just after the rearmost rib, a cut that's around 6 inches long, 1 ½ inches wide, and ¼ inch thick.

Is it better to marinate or dry rub ribs? ›

While a dry rub adds flavour and crust to your protein, a marinade adds taste and tenderness to the meat. This happens because of the liquid's ability to move within the cell walls of the protein and break them down while delivering taste to the meat.

Do baby back ribs get more tender the longer they cook? ›

Your goal is to get good color and caramelization on the outside of the ribs, but also to cook them long enough that the tough collagen breaks down and the meat becomes tender. Generally, the ribs will be browned before the meat is done, which is where the balancing act comes in.

What is the secret to tender ribs? ›

The secret to incredibly tender ribs is baking them low and slow. Baking ribs in the oven is so easy.

Why put mustard on ribs? ›

PRO TIP: Using mustard as a binder on meat lets the seasoning stick better! #protip #cookinghacks #ribs #bbqtiktok #howtobbqright #foryou #fyp.

What is the best tenderizer for ribs? ›

Lime is a natural meat tenderizer. Now you want to generously coat all sides of the ribs with our Rib Rub. Don't go sparingly on it – make sure everybody's got some of it on there. Season all the sides of the ribs well.

Do you cook baby back ribs meat side up or down? ›

I always smoke mine bone side down (so the meaty side is facing up), for two reasons. First, I want the smoke to penetrate the bone side too, so each and every bite of the ribs is equally smoky and delicious. Secondly, if you cook them bone side UP, the juices will pool in the concave center of the bones.

Is it better to boil baby back ribs before cooking? ›

The reason you would boil ribs before cooking them is simple. This process helps tenderize the ribs and makes them more juicy. It not only shortens the cooking time significantly, but it also helps make the meat far easier to chew.

What is the 3 3 1 method for ribs? ›

This super simple recipe takes all the confusion out of making baby back ribs without sacrificing any of the flavor. You'll begin this method by smoking your ribs for 3 hours, then cooking inside foil for 2 hours. Finish by removing your ribs from the foil, brushing on BBQ sauce, and then cook for another hour.

What are the Mcribs made of? ›

The McRib consists of a restructured boneless pork patty shaped like a miniature rack of ribs, barbecue sauce, onions, and pickles, served as a sandwich on a 5+1⁄2-inch (14 cm) roll. Meat restructuring was developed by the US Army to deliver low-cost meat to troops in the field.

Are baby back ribs pork or beef? ›

Baby back ribs are also referred to as pork back ribs, come from the back of the pig near the backbone. Baby back ribs are smaller than spare ribs, and contrary to popular belief, are not cut from baby pigs, they're just smaller.

What are traditional ribs made of? ›

Spare ribs (also side ribs or spareribs) are a variety of ribs cut from the lower portion of a pig, specifically the belly and breastbone, behind the shoulder, and include 11 to 13 long bones. Meat and fat cover the bones. Spare ribs (pork) are distinguished from short ribs, which are beef.

What part of the animal are the riblets? ›

Restaurateurs, butchers, and grocery store owners capitalize on the popularity of ribs when they sell pork riblets and rib tips. Riblets are simply smaller pieces cut from a full rack, while rib tips are meaty chunks from the underside of spare ribs that contain cartilage but no bone.
