My friends feel it's their appointed duty
They keep tryna tell me
All you want to do is use me
But my answer, yeah
Yeah, to all that use me stuff

I-i-i, and I wanna spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Oh, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

My brother
Sit me right down and he talked to me
Oh-oh, he told me, yeah
That I ought not to let you just walk on me
And I'm sure he meant well
Yeah, but when our talk was through

I-i-i said, brother
If you only knew you'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

Oh-oh, sometimes
It's true, you really do abuse me
Oh, you get me in a crowd of high-class people
And then you act real rude to me

Aah-ha, but, oh baby, baby, baby, baby
When you love me, I can't get enough
I, I, I wanna spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Girl, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

Talkin' 'bout you usin' people
It all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're usin' me
'Cause I sure am usin' you
To do the things you do
Ah, how to do the things you do

Man.. this song is about being with a woman who treats you like garbage and everyone around is tellin you to get out. But, what they don't know is that the sweetness is so GOOD to you, that it don't matter how she treats you, as long as she keeps lettin you hit it! Great song!!

To me it's a song about a guy that is dating a "user" but knows it. He's just making the most of it as it also benefits him in a physical (or emotional) sense.Raw Stylus did a good cover of this in the 90s BTW but nothing can beat the withmeister's version.

About the record industry? I love how people just read between the lines like a tenth grade English teacher, you have no evidence to back this up. Why would Withers call the record industry "baby baby baby baby?" lol. Check it: Huge principle in logic is "Occam's Razor," also known as the "law of economy:" it states: "all things being equal, the simplest explanation is most likely the correct one." IMPORTANT: Simplest not meaning least complex, rather, the one that makes the fewest assumptions and seems to accurately reflect the information available.

This is about a Man who loves those juices! He don't give a rats butt about how she's treating him in public or what other people see, it just does not matter, but what she does for him OUTWEIGHS it all. LOL! PEACE.

The song can be interpreted multiple ways, but the consistent theme is bilateral use. Person A uses Person B just as Person B is using person A. The last lines of the song make it clear. He clearly doesn't mind being used because he's also using the person to do the "things" they do.
More interesting, just before saying this, he makes note that one needs to be aware as to how they use someone as whether the use is good or bad simply depends.

Though I will say then when I was younger, I saw this song as a very underlined sexual song. In my young male mind, I envisioned a guy being used almost purely as a sexual object for a female, but in public she frequently belittled him for her personal enjoyment. In the guy's mind, he didn't care because he knew what was soon to come. Again, just another case of bilateral using.

The last three lines. The last three lines of the song is what it is about. What a great ending.

Clearly Bill had a big humiliation fetish.. For those of you who don’t know what that is.. erotic humiliation is basically when people get off on (sometimes paying for) consensual humiliation (being disrespect in public, being treated like a slave etc.) in order to be sexually aroused. It’s a whole thing

I heard this song on a GMC commercial the other day. A person will talk to to you and be interested in what you say...untill someone better comes along, then they'll act like you don't exist. This song has a simple vibe that I love, but it's also depressing...this guy in this song's relationship will probably never be out in the open.

It's about Bill's relationship with the record industry. The leeches at the top are getting rich off of Bill's success, and his friends are trying to tell him not to let the record company/industry walk all over him. But Bill's saying, "Man, I'm getting rich off of these guys; let them use me all they want. At least I'm making a lot of money from my hits."

Hey Jealousy Gin Blossoms My Interpretation on this is that the narrator in the song used to be with a girl that he loved so much and but during that time he was one of the cool guys at school that lived freely(partying and alcohol, etc.) and he wasn't really able to get over his former glory. on the other hand, his girlfriend/ex matured, and started thinking about their future and got a job/career. and since he became much like an alcoholic bum of a sort, he got jealous with the girl having to work all the time having no time for him so didn't felt like "he mattered to her". somewhere in there, they broke up. so one night he went to her place all drunk so he's got this "too drunk to drive" excuse to stay. Trying to somehow patch things between them by telling her that she was "the best he ever had" and that he's really sorry for having "blew up" their relationship years ago, or else they'd still be together. On the second verse he was trying to tell her that all he really want is to be with her and that he has somehow improved that if she'd take him back, he'd no longer drink and sleep around and if she'll accept that he's still in the process of picking himself up and not to expect a great make over, then she might not be let down. The chorus is his way of telling her that they can still do what they used to find exiting or an adrenaline rush and that by doing so, even if the past is gone, they might still be able to pick-up some of the pieces of their past and replace their past failures with a renewed love to take it's place. The last part he says, "she took my heart", means he never got over her and probably never will. The line "there's only one thing I couldn't start", means that he couldn't actually start the conversation with her because he was too drunk to think straight and all of these words were just running inside his head and these were all the things he wanted to tell her. Ave Grave Thee More Shallows So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation. Spirit Within Bertoldi Brothers Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards. Corpse I Fell In Love With Gadjits, The He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.
