Do audible credits expire?

Yes, Audible credits expire if you do not use them within a period of 12 months.

As per new Audible policy, any credits received or issued after April 1, 2019 will expire 12 months after they are issued.

Earlier, the idea of ‘expiry’ for Audible credits was a bit different than what we normally understand from the term.

Instead of the date of expiry, there was a limitation in the number of unused credits that you could keep at a time in your Audible account. If you crossed that limit, any unused credits added after that would expire.

But now, the credit rollover system has gone for good and Audible has finally introduced a simple, flexible, and easy-to-follow credits expiry policy.

Here’s when Audible credits expire:

  • Any credits received or issued after April 1, 2019 will expire 12 months after they are issued.
  • Monthly plan credits issued prior to April 1, 2019 expire after six months. (For example: A credit issued on February 17, 2019 will expire on August 17, 2019)
  • Annual plan credits issued prior to April 1, 2019 expire after 24 months.

So, from now on, you will have 12 months to use your credits after they are issued.

But, keep in mind that if you cancel your Audible membership, all your unused credits will be terminated along with your membership. So, you should use all your credits before you cancel your membership.

However, you have an option to place your membership on hold. On doing so, you can extend your credits expiry period for up to 3 months. To know more, check out the article ‘How to Pause Audible Membership?

Do audible original credits roll over?

No, Audible Original credits do not roll over.

If you fail to use the Audible Original credits for the current month, they will expire on the first Friday of the next month, but 2 new Audible original credits will be added to your account.

Apart from the basic membership credits, Audible also provides 2 Audible Original credits to all its premium members on every first Friday of the month.

Those credits can be used to buy the audio format books produced exclusively by Audible. The members can choose from the 6 Audible originals that are made available by Audible each month.

So, don’t forget to get your Audible Originals before your credits expire.

What happens to audible credits when you cancel your membership?

Unfortunately, all your unused Audible credits will be terminated when you cancel your membership. So, never cancel your Audible membership if you have unused credits in your account.

Instead of canceling your membership, you can consider the following three alternatives:

  • Use all your unused Audible credits and then cancel your membership.
  • Place your Audible membership on Hold: If you want to keep your credits but do not want to get billed for the next few months, you can do that by placing your membership on hold.
That way you won’t be charged and your credits will remain unchanged until your membership is resumed. To know more about this option, refer to this article.
  • Switch to Audible Light plan: If you are willing to pay $9.95 for one year to keep all your unused credits, you can do that by opting for Audible’s Light membership plan. Here’s how you can switch to Audible $9.95/year plan.

How to use Audible credits?

You should always use your Audible credits wisely. I mentioned it earlier that you can use your Audible credit to purchase a 5-dollar audiobook or a 50-dollar audiobook.

However, it makes more sense if you purchase high priced audiobooks using your credits.

For lower price audiobooks, you can simply buy them using money. As an audible member, you will get a 30 % off on each of your purchase.

So, that was almost everything to know about the working of Audible credits. I hope this article was helpful to you.
