The final day of our week-long series on civil discussions in the workplace concludes with a simple reminder:Work is a place where everyone should feel safe, welcomed, respected, and included. This is a key function of HR, but leadership owns the responsibility of making this happen. We bring this goal to life through civil conversations, accountability, clear policies, kindness, compassion, and patience. If you have questions or want to share your thoughts, I'd love to hear from you.

Did you know the leading authority on workplace civility research is a professor at Georgetown? Yes, her name is Christine Porath. Not only has her prolific amount of workplace civility research been published in WSJ, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, and more, but she has also written a book, Mastering Civility: A Manifesto for the Workplace, and she has a viral TED talk on the topic. I have shared her website here for those who are interested in this research. https://lnkd.in/eqVrcK6tI will be highlighting some of her research in upcoming posts as I find these studies to be most impactful when conducting training on the Workplace Civility Initiative! #workplacecivility #employeerelationsconsulting #hr #employmentlaw #employeerelations

On Civility and Mutual RespectAccording to the Society of HR Management, the workplace is where we are exposed to the most diverse points of view. Our workplaces can serve to gain exposure to others, harvest new insights, explore new ways of problem solving, and increase shared learning and empathy. But unfortunately, 66% of the workforce has experienced incivility in the past month. We can assume that where there is incivility and discord, the benefits of diverse thought and lived experience are minimized or worse. So how might we lean into this anticipated potential disruption to increase civility and an environment for mutual respect? Here are a few questions to ponder:1) What structures and systems can we put in place to build mutual respect and bridge-building?2) What processes might we introduce and reinforce to hardwire civil behaviors?3) What support can we provide for our people to increase engagement and a desire to lean in respectfully for shared purpose and meaningful outcomes? As Lisa Fain stated, "Becoming more self-aware is the necessary first step to bridging differences. Without it, you will not be able to identify or understand when you encounter differences that matter." Let's proactively work towards creating a more respectful, inclusive, and civil workplace. #workplacecivility #bridgingdifferences #workingtogether #highperformingorganizations

"Human" by Rag'n'Bone Man 🎵 is a powerful anthem that underscores the beauty of our imperfections and the importance of empathy. This message resonates deeply with the world of Human Resources Management. The song serves as a poignant reminder for HR professionals to celebrate individual strengths, acknowledge weaknesses, and understand the potential for error inherent in all of us. 🌟Just like the song, HR is all about humanizing the workplace, fostering a supportive and tolerant environment where everyone feels valued. 🤝Let's take a cue from "Human" and promote a culture of understanding and empathy in our workplaces. After all, we're only human! 💪#HumanResources #EmpathyInTheWorkplace #WorkplaceCulture #Understanding #StrengthInDiversity #OnlyHuman

To my fellow Communicators and HR colleagues, this article is insightful and worth the minute read. It puts into perspective what many of us are trying to do when we lead internal communications work, HR initiatives and DEI efforts. It doesn’t matter who you are…“Social belonging is a fundamental human need, hardwired into our DNA…Workers need to feel like they belong to something they value — and that they have the power to bring about change when it’s needed.”“Leaders and organizations should invite employee feedback, and take it seriously; this behavior is a cornerstone of inclusive companies.”#EmployeeCommunications | #EmployeeEngagement | #HumanResources | #DiversityEquityInclusion | #Belonging | #GreatPlaceToWorkhttps://lnkd.in/e7HUP3da

Workplace Politics defines politics as processes and behaviors between people to get things done and get needs met. Dr. Wisdom will address four aspects to help address workplace politics: self-awareness, understanding power and influence, negotiating, and giving/receiving feedback.
