Both are really cute, wholesome stories about how the main kids lost their parent as kids, so they are taken care of by an adult while trying to survive themselves

Gakuen Babysitters addpermalink

To me they both feel similar because of the family-like topics they have. They can both have cute and sad moments too (Gakuen Babysitters being a lot more friendly with it) But yeah overall you should see Kotarou Lives Alone if you want something more deep yet similar to Gakeun Babysitters.

Gugure! Kokkuri-san addpermalink

Kotarou's whole character really reminded me of Kokkuri MC, with the eccentric way of speaking, acting fine while holding a lot of pain and trauma, others taking care of the MCs even though they are not asked to do so, but both animes have an overall funny and nonchalant vibe despite the occasional emotionally painful moments.

- children as main leads- deals with very heavy topics like child abuse through the perspective of children- dramatic and sad but still has a lot of comedic moments

Spy x Family addpermalink

Both centre around childcare; between the child who has wisdom beyond their age amongst strangers along with an ensemble cast of characters who unwittingly care for them despite their non-filial yet warm connection. It sure to pull the heart strings of familial love.

Ousama Ranking addpermalink

The characters share great similarities between trauma and trying to over come it and better themselves. They share a great resolve and wanting to be more and better than their current standings, along with age and other personality similarities. Kotaro is a modern day setting whereas Ranking of Kings is a more medieval setting but they are still both similar and very sweet and heart breaking in the way the characters are explored. I have found both wholesome and gut wrenching to watch and would definitely think if you like one the other is worth a try :)

Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou. addpermalink

Both feature a kid on their own and a guy who decides to look after. They also both handle the topic of domestic issues. While they may have similar plots they have a completely different feel to them.

Buddy Daddies addpermalink

Both series revolve around a child and people without blood relations who take care of the them. Both series are heart warming, though Buddy Daddies is a lot more cheery compared to Kotarou wa Hitorigurashi's realistic setting.

Himouto! Umaru-chan addpermalink

I personally started watching Kotaro on Netflix and I immediately thought of Umaru-chan, a series I love very much! It is similar in the way it mixes light hearted humour with the main character being a small/chibi cute character but different as Kotaro seems to be more deep with emotions, also had me tearing up and crying at some parts. Anyways I've only just started Kotaro and I can already tell it will be one of my favourites so I suggest either anime, if you like one you'll probably like the other.

Tokyo Godfathers addpermalink

Kotaro Lives Alone and Tokyo Godfathers have sentimental stories that blends comedy and drama and that feature a disparate group of adults taking care of a child under usual circumstances. Kotaro Lives Alone is definitely a hidden gem that is overlooked likely due to the artistic style, but anyone willing to give this anime a chance will find themselves surprised by this touching story. Tokyo Godfathers is a well-known movie, but it is still far less popular compared to any highly rated anime series likely due to its realistic and mature storyline. I encourage you to consider this recommendation as your next anime if &nbspread more

Guy that looks cold on the outside but actually isn't ends up taking care of a kid who is sort of lonely and going through a hard situation. Other adults around end up also taking care of the kid and they all form a very cute bond that will probably give you tears.
