This was one of my first Slice of Life anime's I have watched and it peaked my interest from the preview that Netflix shows. This was one of the most enjoyable shows I have seen.

Story: 9

The story is a very heart-warming and enjoyable story with lots of loveable characters that have great storytelling behind each of them even with only 10 episodes in the season. The episodes are sort of split in two almost like two 15 minute shorts put into a 30 minute episode. The adventures and escapades of Kotaro and his neighbor Karino shows a side of society that most people forget about. ...

When I first saw this, I knew this was going to be devastatingly sad. And guess what.

The anime pays what it offers, pure sadness and loneliness.

This anime should be called ''the drepessive life of akid who already suffered the equivalent of a whole life''.

but there are also good moments where you can enjoy the momentary and efemerous happines and lear a thing or two about how people are ruthless.

and I am still typing because I have already said everything I had to, but this site keeps asking me to write a longer review.

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ...

This anime is a good starting point for long time anime watchers who have stopped watching anime for a while. Kotaro lives alone has a relax and cozy pacing in terms of storyline, character development not much but there is some growth in the main characters. For me, the main themes of this show are found family and neglected children. If anything I wished the anime didn't end and has a second season, it has the same vibes as Gakuen Babysitters but not as much cutesy. I recommend watching this for a good cry.

The storyline is quite unique as it's not everyday you follow ...

Preliminary (8/10 eps)

Cried/10

I hadn't ventured into a new anime in a while, but was pleasantly surprised. I was aware of the tone going in, and it did delivery in smiles and tears.
While not overly dark in it's depiction of it's themes, the themes are indeed very dark, only softened by the presentation (the point of view of a small child). That said, some scenes of child abuse can get vivid.
All the main characters have a point of endearment, and their interactions were incredibly enjoyable to watch. Even when I usually don't like child characters, Kotaro was a bittersweet encounter, and all his quirks were charming in ...

personally this anime was a shocker to me. I thought it would be a good anime since it was on netflix but it turned out to be unexpectedly awesome.
I guess the best anime lidens flims has produced.
the story is very character centered and the main character is written very well although the MC is dependent on side character which makes the story more elaborate. the best part about the MC is its backstory is not yet completely revealed but whatever is revealed is very impactful and EMOTIONAL. basically a 4 years old boy lives in a rented apartment. where are his parents? how is ...

A 4-year oId boy moves into an apartment by himself. The neighbors befriend (sorta adopt) him and during his daily adventures we learn about his past.

I work in child/youth care, and while 4 years old is a bit extreme (5-6 would have been better), it was very realistic in the emotional sense. The interactions, too. The creator put much thought, effort and emotion into this and you can feel that.

Not just Kotaro, but the other people all got their moments. The episodic subplots and background characters were just as interesting and really had you feel with- and like them.

The art wasn't really special but ...

I honestly went in a bit skeptical, but this was a really good show. I mean, really. It manages to balance the comedy and tragedy of a child living alone in such a impactful way. It has an impressive way of punching you in the gut with simple scenes, and keeps Kotaro's backstory mysterious enough that it's intriguing, but gives you enough information to keep you putting pieces together, eager to hear more. It has a great theme, well-done characters, and was overall one of the most impressive anime I've seen lately. I don't want to spoil anything, but I think I'm okay saying that ...

One day, manga author Shin Karino is greeted by four-year-old Kotarou Satou, his new next-door neighbor, who gifts him a box of tissues. In Karino's eyes, Kotarou is an odd kid: he speaks in an extremely formal manner, and he lives alone in his apartment—no parents or relatives in sight. But Kotarou neither seems to mind, nor wants to rely on people.

Feeling sympathetic toward Kotarou's circumstances, Karino decides to follow Kotarou to a bathhouse in case something might happen to him and there he comes to understand the little boy is not so different from him. Little by little, Karino—along with the other residents of ...

I went into this thinking it was a silly goofy slice of life. And while it is a silly goofy slice of life at times, it is also a tragedy that will punch you right in the gut. I bawled my eyes out ya'll. I am so surprised that I haven't seen more people talking about this anime. Kotaro is a very lovable kid and you will understand from the first episode that he has a sad past, and you will come to love him as quickly as Kotaro's new neighbours come to love him.

Rating: 10/10, would totally bawl my eyes out again.

This anime is surprisingly good. Yes, the artwork is a little off-putting, but when you are able to look past it, there's a pretty enjoyable and funny slice of life anime with a darker hidden backstory that gets drip-fed to you as the show moves on.

As a parent, this show speaks to me on another level with it's hidden themes, and how Kotaro acts with other members of the apartment complex that he resides in. The story writers really captured the actions and thoughts of a 4 year old (other than how clear he talks, but the show would be even harder to watch if ...

Kotaro Lives Alone is a heartful and wholesome story, and I enjoyed every little bit of its enchanting tale.

The premise surrounds the MC, Kotaro, who is a self-reliant young boy determined to succeed and become strong without the help of others. However, soon realizes that he doesn't have to do things by himself, and that he - in fact - is also not alone. Not anymore, at least.

The plot unfolds around Kotaro's neighbor's slowly peeling apart the background that Kotaro tries so desperately to keep covered. Which gives us the chance to learn about these kind, warmhearted characters. I loved discovering more about each ...

This anime was funny, entertaining, heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is also actually one of the few anime I prefer English dubbed over subbed.

Kotaru is only 4 but speaks more eloquently than any ordinary adult. He moves into a building on his own because of a complicated relationship with his parents and absolutely comical events start happening from there. Kotaru is an understanding, clever and peculiar child acting more like an adult and immediately becomes great friends with all of his neighbours. We follow his life and certain hardships he goes through, the way he helps his adult friends and more.

I started watching this with a ...

Kotaro Lives Alone is a show that left me feeling a lot of emotions as I watched it. The concept of child abandonment isn't something that's regularly discussed and it was hard to grapple with the jokes that were being thrown about that just didn't sit quite right because they were grounded in the realities of this child growing up in a very difficult situation. Needless to say, many tears were shed. While the animation leaves a bit to be desired, I don't think that it detracts from the message of the show and the interactions that the main characters have with each other. I ...

OPENING & CLOSING THEMES + SONGS
I don’t think I ever have any opening or closing themes that I hated especially in my slice of life anime, and it’s no different for this series. The intro was so cute and colorful which surprisingly reminds me of those childhood shows that I like. Just watching the opening already makes me feel relaxed, which really is the reason why I love slice of life genre, *wink. The song suits the opening as well, which sounds really cute <3

The ending on the other hand is pretty simple but the illustration changes in every episode and looks really good. It ...

This anime is one of the example as to why you don't judge a book by its cover. Why? I started the anime expecting a wholesome, funny and a feel good slice of life, while it does have those elements, there are also some elements I wasn't expecting and that is the inclusion of a more serious topic like abusive parents, an abusive relationship, parents neglecting their child and more. Aight I'll talk about the show now.

Story
Kotaro lives alone. Pretty self explanatory to be honest. We see Kotaro's day to day life along with his neighbors. As to why he lives alone, we get to ...

This Anime is about this 4 year toddler named "Kotarou", who started to live alone in an apartment. But despite his age, Kotarou acts very mature. He addresses everyone with honorifics, he doesn't cry for every small mistake, he understands everyone easily... To put it simply, he's like the "Perfect Kid" every parent want their child to be. So, he should be happy, right?.. Right?

At it's core, this show tells how tragic it looks when a toddler tries so hard to be mature for the sake of others, when he should be enjoying the only time he can be as a child. Even though, there's ...

This anime spoke to me on several different levels. From a more analytical perspective, the story is very well written and is developed in an intriguing way, which compelled me to watch the show even though I prefer to consume media in the form of manga more often now. As a slice of life anime it offers a unique insight into day-to-day living that a more character arc and action driven show could not. It allows exploration of the character dynamics while providing a lighter canvas that's undercut by terribly dark themes. Every episode has a little revelation as to what happened to Kotaro. The ...

Kotaro Lives Alone is great to watch, it's funny many times but the drama is what makes this series work, for me that
have 31 years old, every subject that deals with children in anime moves me, but even here there is no violence, seeing how a 4-year-old deals with life is enough to make you have tears in your eyes,
The last episode made me cry, I admit it! kkkkk, it is a light comedy and very exciting, even some stories are not so interesting, the series manages to hold you very well during the 10 episodes of practically 30 min.

OBS: The animation of Isamu's clothes ...

I’ve decided to write my first review on this show because I think just putting a 10/10 doesn’t do it justice. This show resonated with me so deeply and I am sitting here crying and thinking about it.

Here are some reasons for why you should watch this show:

- I am someone who works with younger kids for my job. This was such a refreshing view on the intelligence of children, because they are so much smarter than people give them credit for.
- The small and subtle ways that outsiders can detect abuse in the home is important and I think this show touches on ...
